The first experimental survey (for the family budget) was conducted in 1955, designed and implemented by the Statistics Committee of the Permanent Council for Public Services in three villages in Giza Governorate with a sample size of 750 households from the community of households in the three villages, which numbered 4000 households.

ــــ In 1958/1959, a larger-scale research was conducted that included all governorates of the Republic with a sample size of 6376 households.

ــــ In 1964/1965, the second research of the family budget research was implemented with a sample size of 13818 households.

ــــ In 1974/1975, the third research of the family budget research was conducted - after an absence of ten years due to the war conditions that the country went through - with a sample size of 11995 households.

ــــ In 1981/1982, the agency conducted the fourth study, where the sample size was increased to 17,000 households.

ــــ In 1990/1991, the name of "Family Budget Research" was changed to "Income, Expenditure and Consumption Research", where the fifth study was conducted with a sample size of 15,000 households.

ــــ In 1995/1996, the sixth study was conducted with a sample size of 15,090 households.

ــــ In 1999/2000, the seventh study was conducted with a sample size of 48,000 households.

ــــ In 2004/2005, the eighth study was conducted with a sample size of 48,000 households.

ــــ In 2008/2009, the ninth study was conducted with a sample size of 48,658 households.

ــــ In 2010/2011, the tenth study was conducted on a sample size of 26.5 thousand households, including 16.5 thousand new households and 10 thousand follow-up households.

ــــ In 2012/2013, the eleventh study was conducted on a sample size of 24,863 households, including 16,094 new households and 8,769 follow-up households.

ــــ In 2021, the twelfth study was conducted on a sample size of 25,600 households.

ــــ In 2017-2018, the thirteenth study was conducted on a sample size of 26,000 households.

ــــ Finally, the current study, which is the fourteenth, was conducted on a sample size of 26,000 households.

Abstract

The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics is interested in preparing statistical research that reflects a true picture of the life of the Egyptian citizen from all demographic, social and economic dimensions. Therefore, the agency implements research on income, spending, and consumption, which is one of the most important household researches conducted by statistical agencies in various countries of the world, because it provides detailed data that help in identifying the consumption patterns of society and the changes that occur to those patterns as a result of the social and economic changes that occur from one period to another. It also provides data that enables measuring living standards and determining poverty lines upon which decision makers rely in developing social protection programs, as well as providing the necessary weights for constructing consumer price indices, which are an important indicator for measuring inflation

The analysis units: is to identify the living household according to the theoretical basis (the usual residence place) and consist of one individual or more connected or not connected by relative connection, but they participate in the housing, food and depends on a joint spending budget.

Notes

The survey covers all aspects of spending and actual consumption of the enumerated household during the survey period, as well as the housing conditions, and the demographic characteristics of the individuals.
