I. Purpose of the Bulletin: To identify size and characteristics of the community of foreigners working in private and investment sector in Egypt to accomplish some development programs, especially programs that need advanced technology.

II. Coverage of the Bulletin: The annual bulletin includes distribution of foreigners working in private and investment sectors in terms of the country of origin groups (nationality, main professions, type of contracting, destination of issuing licenses authority in governorates, economic activity categories).

III. Data Sources: Data are collected annually by Ministry of Manpower.

IV Bulletin Periodicity: The bulletin is issued annually (for a calendar year period).

V. Availability Methods: Hard copy/ CD / website.

General indicators:

‏ Foreign workers in private and investment sectors: Total number of foreigners working in private and investment sectors in Egypt reached 13469 foreigners of different nationalities in 2017 ,compared to 14045 foreigners in 2016 , an decrease of 4.1 %.

Number of foreigners working in Egypt for the first time was 5441 foreigners by 40.4%, and the foreigners with renewed contracted 8028 foreigners by 59.6% in 2017 of the total number of foreigners working in private and investment sector, and were distributed according to the country of origin groups, nationality, main occupational divisions and destination of issuing work permits in governorates and economic activity categories as follows:

1- In terms of the country of origin groups: Foreigners from Asian countries (non-Arab) represents the largest number, with 5233 foreigners (38.8%), mainly from India (1485 foreigners at 28.4% and Bangladesh with 1474 foreigners at 28.2%). Followed by European countries with 3909 foreigners by 29% (Most of them are from England with 640 foreigners by 16.4%, Italy with 620 foreigners, 15.9%), Arab countries with 2997 foreigners (22.3%), most of them are from Palestine with 1210 foreigners by 40,4 % and Syria 904 foreigners by 30.2%), the Americas and Australia with 993 foreigners 7.4%, most of them are from United States with 498 foreigners by 50,2% and Canada with 204 foreigners 20.5%) while African countries (non-Arab), represent fewer numbers 163 foreign reached 1.2% of the total number of foreign workers and private investment sector in 2017.

2- In terms of major occupations divisions: Technicians and specialist assistants represent the largest number of foreigners working in these professions, with 4029 foreigners by 29.9% followed by legislators, senior officials, and managers with 3364 foreigners by 25%, specialists and scientific professionals with 3176 foreigners with 23.6% of the total number of foreigners working in Private and investment sectors in 2017.

3- In terms of destination of issuing work permits in governorates: Labor Force Directorates are the first in terms of issuing work permits for foreigners working in private and investment sectors in Egypt. Number of work permits issued reached 6183 licenses, 45.9% followed by investment offices with 4605 licenses, 34.2% of the total. It points out Investment sector improvement and attracting foreigners to work in it. Then oil offices with 1541 licenses by 11.4% and corporate offices in 1140 by 8.5% of the total licenses granted to foreigners working in private and investment sectors in 2017. Cairo ranked first in terms of number of foreigners working in it, with 3217 foreigners at 23.9%, followed by Giza with 1622 foreigners by 12%, South Sinai with 301 foreigners by 2.2% followed by Sharqia 257 by 1.9% Of the total number of foreigners working in private and investment sectors in 2017.

4- In terms of categories of economic activity: - The activity of manufacturing industries represents the largest number in terms of the number of foreign workers, as it reached 3949 foreigners, or 29.3%. , followed by the activity of other services with the number of 2571 foreigners, or 19.1% Then the mining activity numbered 1611 by 12%. While the agricultural activity represents the lowest numbers, as it reached 256 foreigners, representing 1.9% of the total number of foreigners working in the private and investment sectors in 2017.
