The first series of General index was issued in 1914 under the name of living expenses index using fiscal year 1913/1914 as a base year for Cairo only.In January 1940,the second series was issued under the same name taking 1939 as a base year for Cairo also.The third series under the name of Consumer Price Index (CPI) was issued in 1966/1967 as base year covering 11 cities and 6 rural areas.As of July 1988,the fourth series was issued using fiscal year 1986/1987 as a base year covering all Republic governorates.Time series of consumer price indices continued until the ninth series,which was issued from September 2010 using January 2010 as a base period.

Abstract

Consumer Price Index (CPI) is one of the most important statistical & economical indicators and most closely related to individuals daily lives as well as their impact on decisions taken in economic fields.

Consumer Price Index (CPI) depicts change in goods and services price levels in retail markets as an important indicator of measuring inflation.It is also one of the necessary tools used to calculate national income at fixed prices,as well as measuring the change in real wage levels Which are the actual wages after clearing them of price changes impact

7. Time series for the general index and change quarterly rates upon sections and main groups of Republic urban.

8. Time series for inflation rates for the general number by Gregorian and Fiscal year of Republic urban.

9. Used weights in weighting of main divisions and groups from the reality of income,spending and consumption research 2008/2009 upon 6 urban areas,urban,rural and Republic total levels .
